Moroccan Tile Stitch Mini-Backpack

Hello everyone. I am Sharon. I am going to share with you one of my creations. This is a Mini-Backpack and worked in Morrocan Tile Stitch. If you have seen most of my projects, I am quite obsessed with this stitch. One reason is because you can use many colors with one main color.

You can use any yarn of your choice.

The materials that I have used are:

Baguio Mercerised Cotton Yarn in light Brown
Cannon Crochet Thread size 8
2 mm crochet hook

Round 1: Make a magic ring. Chain 1. 6 SCs into the ring. To end the round, slip stitch on top of the first SC made.
Round 2: Chain 1. 2 SC into the same stitch. 2 SC into each of the next 5 SCs.
Round 3: Chain 1. 1 SC into the same stitch. 2 SC into the next stitch. 2 SC into every 2nd stitch around. To end the round, slip stitch on top of the first SC made.
Round 4: Chain 1. 1 SC into the same stitch. 1 SC into the next. 2 SC into the 3rd stitch. 2 SC into
every 3rd stitch around. To end the round, slip stitch on top of the first SC made.
Round 5: Chain 1. 1 SC into the same stitch. 1 SC into the next stitch. 1 SC into the next. 2 SC into every 4rth stitch around.

For you to be able to make the base bigger especially if you are using a crochet thread, you just need to keep working an increase into the nth stitch. For example next is Round 6 so the increase will be into every 5th, Round 7 will be into every 6th and so on..

Round 8 : 2 SC into every 7th stitch around
Round 9 : 2 SC into every 8th stitch around.

I have included a crochet chart in the video tutorial that can be easily found on Pinterest to know how many stitches you should have per round. For as long as you keep the increase right into every round, you will end up with the total number indicated per round in the crochet stitch counting guide.

The Moroccan Tile stitch is in multiples of 3 so you can start the base  with either 6 SCs or 12 SCs for as long as you start the number in rounds that is in multiples of 3.
I worked an increase until Round 9.
After doing the last round of increase. Work the next 2 to 3 rounds with Chain 1. 1 SC into the same stitch. 1 SC into every stitch around. This will give our Mini-Backpack some depth.
I did Round 10 to 13.
Next, we will start with the Morrocan Tile stitch.
After slip stitching the last round,
Round 13 : Chain 3. Add 1 more for the chain space. 1 DC into the same stitch. We made our first V-stitch. * Skip 2 stitches. 1 DC, Ch 1, 1 DC into the next stitch. * Repeat * around. To end the round, slip stitch on top of the 3rd beginning chain. Leave it hanging in a long loop and keep it on front. You can add a stitch marker because we will get back to that into every 2nd round.
Round 14: Join Color B. Chain 3. 2 DC into the same stitch. * 3 DC into every V-stitch around.* To end the round, work a slip stitch on top of the 3rd beginning chain. Leave it hanging in a long loop. Add a stitch marker. Make sure you leave it on the back.
Round 15: Get back to the main color or Color A.
Chain 3. Add 1 more for the turning chain. 1 DC into the same space. 1 DC, ch 1, 1 DC (or V-stitch) in between the two 3 DC groups and 2 V-stitches of the previous round.
Repeat around. To end the round, slip stitch on top of the beginning 3rd chain.
Repeat Round 14 and 15 alternately until you get to the desired height you want.
Once you reach the height you want, you should always end up the final round of Moroccan Tile stitch with the main color. Into the next 2 to 3 rounds, work 1 SC into each stitch around.

Chain 60 for the drawstring.

To make the Flap, chain 10 then add 1 more for the turning chain.
Round 1: On the second chain from hook work your first SC. 1 SC into each of the next 7 chain. 3 SC into the last chain. Work 1 SC into each of the stitches on the opposite side.
Once you get to the last stitch,
Round 2: Chain 1 then turn. Work 1 SC into each of the next stitches, When you get to
the group of 3 SC. Work 2 SC into each. (We are working an increase). Keep working 1 SC into each stitch until the end of round.
Round 3: Chain 1 then turn. ! SC into each of the next stitches. When you get to the group of 3 SC, work (1 SC, 2 SC) respectively. Repeat 3 times. Work 1 SC into each of the remaining stitches. Chain 1 fasten off.

Join the flap on the back edge of the othe piece by working a row of single crochet across. Before attaching the flap, fold both edges to make the drawstring style.
For the strap, chain about 60 or more depending on your preferred length. Then work 1 Sc into each chain starting on the second chain from hook. We will sew the strap into
the back which you will be able to see how its done in the video.

Finally, chain 60 (or more), Using a tapestry needle sew through the folded edge then into the middle passing through the other folded edge then back to the middle where
the ends of the strings meet.
