How to Price Your Handmades

Image
There are some debates about pricing handmades among our fellow crocheters in the Philippines. Some are mad that others are selling at a very low price. Some say they don't know the value of their hard work. Some are mad that others are selling at a very high price. They say that they are pricing their handmades too much. What exactly is the formula for pricing handmades? That's a difficult question to answer but let me break down all the things we need to consider when pricing your precious crocheted/knitted items. Let me ask you questions: What are your expertise? In which project are you good at? Is it enough to show people how good you are? Or are you confident enough to make one? If yes, how much money are you willing to invest in this business of doing handmades?          Materials you need to buy-Are the Yarns affordable or the premium Yarns-the high quality ones?          Labor cost: Ho...

Plastic Canvas Elegant Bag

Image
I have been taking a vacation lately from cricething and I happen to check what's trending these days and guess what? I have seen some plastic canvas that are being used to make this kind of bag. If you are looking for a project that does not need some Crocheting skills, you can do this. It's very easy to make. You can do this project with your kids. All you need is a needle and some yarns.. Some hardware locks, chain Straps and some D rings.  The materials used in this project are not very expensive. It may cost you less that $10 especially if you already have yarns and other materials. To make this one, you need to weave the yarn using a yarn needle into the squares of the plastic canvas.  The size of the plastic canvas I used is 50 x 33 cm. I cut out the plastic canvas to have 1 56 x 31 grid and 2 pieces of 16x 6 grid.  Anyways, if you would like me to show you how it is done.. Please watch this video. How to Crochet the Chevron Stitch Purse

Image
For this project you may use any yarn of your choice. You should make a swatch first to check if the hook you are using is perfect for the yarn.  The Chevron stitch is done in rows of single crochets in  back loop only. It's in multiples of 13. Once you have chained 13 many times, then add 2 chains at the end.  Row 1: On the second chain from hook, work 2 SC. 1 SC into each of the next 5 chains. *Skip 2 chains. 1 SC into each of the next 5 chains. 3 SC into the next chain. 1 SC into each of the next 5 chains.* Repeat * until you finish the row. When you reach the last chain, work 2 SC. Row 2: Chain 1 and turn. 2 SC into the first stitch. 1 SC into each of the next 5 stitches. *Skip 2 stitches. 1 SC into each of the next 5 stitches. 3 SC into the next stitch. 1 SC into each of the next 5 stitches. * REPEAT * UNTIL the end of row. When you get to the last stitch, work 2 SC. Row 3: Repeat Row 2 until you get to the height you want.  This stitch is perfect for maki...

It's been a challenging journey for me as a Crocheter of almost 6 years. When I first uploaded a video on how to make the Moroccan Tile Stitch Purse, which happened to be the first design I have made.  I remember Ate Remy who is a good friend and my sister-in-law's aunt. She bought many purses using the design I posted on Facebook. It was a Sunday. It was actually a gloomy Sunday for me. I was broke that time and almost giving up on YouTube. I actually uploaded a few tutorials in which I think did not seem to be great if not good. Most of them (the videos)are done without too much effort or should I say I did not have enough experience in editing or marketing.  So Ate Remy ordered about 100 pieces of these purses and then I thought of why not making a tutorial since I will be making them 100 times in different colors..  I was asked to make some more designs and so I did it. Believe or not, I almost thought I wouldn't be able to finish. This is also working but I am ...

How to Crochet a Pencil or Hook Case

Image
Hello everyone. It has been awhile since I wrote a blog about my recent projects. The truth is that I am not really good at writing and I get lazy writing the pattern. As I write this blog today, I thought of writing some of the information that I may have missed when I did a tutorial on this video in which I will add the link below. This is a free pattern I found on Pinterest. This will be worked in rows for the body of this case. First you will need to work a chain of 35. This is the foundation chain. If you are going to adjust the size, say, you want it longer. Keep in mind the repeating stitches you need. Multiples of 4 + 6.  If you want to work in rounds, the repeat would be in multiples of 4.  There will be 3 pieces that you will put together. One done in rows and the other two-circles for each side.  You can use any yarn of your choice. If you have seen most of my tutorials, they do not have a specific brand of yarn to use for the...

How to Crochet Adjustable Ear Loop Facemask

Image
Hello everyone. I have a video tutorial on how I have made these facemasks that have adjustable ear loops. I used a cotton crochet thread using 1.75 mm crochet hook. This is really great to make especially when you don't know the exact size of the person you are making for. This is a free size facemask.  I have made 3 designs on this. The first one is done in SCs so that the strap is thicker then added a sliver beads that have holes. Next is with heart beads and I showed how to crochet hearts. Last but not the least is the one with flowers. Now I have facemask to wear in different occasions.  Here is the link of the video tutorial.  https://youtu.be/JZbbm-fXX9E Don't forget to like, comment and subscribe to my channel for more free patterns:  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvQIsXhUy2rm2Nd8HB0f64A
